Truancy Policy and Guidelines
Anytime a student has missed (3) consecutive days of absences an attendance check will take place.
When students have accrued 5 absences (unexcused) a student and parent will be sent a letter apprising them of the status of their absences. Kent ISD will be contacted with the truancy referral.
These absences will accrue throughout the school year and are cumulative, not consecutive.
If there is no contact by 10 days, another letter will be sent out informing the family that they will again be referred to Kent ISD for truancy. Kent ISD may contact you for truancy action.
Finally, if no contact after 15 days of absence, the family will receive a truancy letter from MVCA* in addition to further punitive action by Kent ISD in regards to the truancy delinquency. Which could include truancy court interventions or a truancy officer visitation.
Truancy Chart - Accrued Days
*The 15 day truancy letter from MVCA will state, if there is no reply within 5 business days a parent is implying the student will no longer attend MVCA, a parent requested withdrawal will be implemented and the student will be withdrawn by administration.
